What will the NDP be able to say they accomplished?

It's Election 2009. The debates. The question comes up for all the leaders: "What has your party accomplished so far?"

Stephen Harper gives his lame answer about how he prepared Canada to deal with the recession effectively.

Michael Ignatieff talks about how he made EI reform a priority and held the government to account on its stimulus spending.

What does Jack Layton say? What can he say? The problem for the NDP is, they can't accomplish anything, not with their attitude.

Layton has decided he and his party will not participate in this parliament. They'll just vote no on everything that is a matter of confidence. Instead of trying to get concessions, like Michael Ignatieff (thought those concessions may not be huge) Jack Layton has decided he will just sit in his corner and pout. Sitting in the corner and pouting does not accomplish much.

It doesn't take a leader to say no to eveything. It does, however, take a leader to make the best of a bad situation, and make what he or she can of it.

I don't think anyone can say that they accomplished much of anything. And any third party is always in a ridiculous position, particularly if they are facing a extreme right government. The last government that seemed to be really accomplishing anything was PM Martin and the NDP was able to contribute to these accomplishments only because they were close enough politically to the Liberals that it afforded cooperation. Unfortunately for all of us they were then stupid enough to bring it all down.

How about a mere 3 examples from many available:

http://www.ndp.ca/press/new-democrats-motion-to-extend-ei-passes-in-house

http://www.ndp.ca/press/new-democrat-credit-card-relief-motion-passes-in-parliament

http://www.ndp.ca/press/new-democrat-motion-to-ensure-retirement-security-gets-all-party-support

Is that an ok start or are all of these a waste of parliments time because the're not being studied by a 'Blue Ribbon' panel?
