1. From Warren Kinsella's blog:
Man, what a day. First a $50 billion deficit, now this.
It's crazy, I know, but I don't think they want to be government anymore, and they are committing policy seppuku.
From today's Question Period:
The Speaker: The Right Honourable Prime Minister.
Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada: Mr. Speaker, let's be clear: When we did our pre-budget consultations, the Liberal Party wanted two more weeks of employment insurance. So, Mr. Speaker, we gave five more weeks of employment insurance, plus all kinds of additional money for training for people both on EI and not on EI. These are measures to help the unemployed in this recession. What we're not going to do is every two or three months come up with another economic policy, another budget until we need to go into -- until we need to raise taxes. Our deficits are affordable, but they will remain short-term.
2. The deficit:
$50 billion dollars
3. The attack ads had a minimal effect on the polls. The Tories now hold a resounding two point lead.

You forgot to add, "in a canwest sponsored poll" to 3.
Can't you guys read? He is tell you that is something he is prepared not to do, to NOT put us in a position where that would be necessary?
Jeez guys, you really THAT desperate to look for ANY thing? Those ads must be more effective than we all realized!:d
Gee, Mikey, maybe if your head wasn't shoved so far up Harper's ass, you could see he fell into his own trap today.
I don't really care what he said, or meant to say, or wanted to say, or wished he had said.
I do care that he has managed to turn record budget surpluses into record budget deficits in just 3 years. I wish Harper was half as concerned about the state of Canada as he is attacking his perceived enemies.
I want adults back in government, not petulant 3-year olds throwing tantrums during question period.
Michael Harkov, that desperation you speak of is that of the Harper ReformaTories. The whole Iggy line about “we would have to raise taxes” you Harperites keep spewing off was taken out of context from an honest answer to a hypothetical question where every other alternative to turning a structural deficit around was exhausted. Nice try to take the high road but you ReformaTories are experts at slagging Liberals with comments taken out of context. You expect us to turn the other cheek? Go peddle your hypocrisy elsewhere.
Also, for what it’s worth, REAL fiscal conservatives (and there are plenty who hold Liberal Party memberships) know that running structural deficits destroys your economic future (look no further than the States to see this) and that raising taxes (done properly, after a recession and as to not kill recovery) is preferable and necessary to the continuing disintegration of a nation’s prosperity due to a crushing mountain of debt. Or are you one of these people who keeps charging more and more to your credit card whist only paying off the minimum balance required?
Gee Joey, in regards to how much you decry those deficts, maybe I could take what you say seriousy if your party hadn't supported the Tory's budget, or the dozens of other confidence measures that kept this government going, or if there actually, you know, no Liberals who didn't think this kind of short term deficit spending was necessary.
You guys keep blathering about how BAD this Tory government is, but gosh darn it, you guys keep supporting it. Thanks we appreciate your support/ :D
Hypocrisy, T? You Liberals whine about being taken out of context, and being on the receiving end of ads when you'e done the exact same and worse to Harper and other Conservatives for years, and WE'RE hypocrites?
Now you have a Liberal senator that is proposing a bill to ban political ads outside of elections. Its rather interesting that for years that was what the Liberal parties did. Now when the shoe is on the other foot, they tuck tail in run.
And for all those things you've said that REAL fiscal conservatives in your party suport, well, their party sure showed their support when they supported this terrible, horrible government all this time. :D
And of COURSE you guys support raising taxes. You've said that very thing in your post, and WE'RE the ones taking YOU guys out of context? How about YOU peddle YOUR hypocrisy elsewhere?
